Heading into their final game of the regular season on Friday, October 27, the Seward High School Lady Seahawks find themselves right where they want to be.

Within reach of the Class 3A state playoffs.

Seward, which is scheduled to travel to Anchorage to face off against Grace Christian in its regular-season finale, has clinched one of the top three seeds in the upcoming Southcentral Conference tournament. The Lady Seahawks are scheduled to begin play in the state-qualifier beginning next week in the Alice Witte Gymnasium at Homer High School. The top two teams in the tournament will advance to the Class 3A state tournament on November 10 in Anchorage.

Seward made sure it was hitting on all cylinders this past Friday by pounding out a convincing 3-0 road victory over the Anchorage Christian Lady Lions.

Riley Von Borstel and Maille Moriarty helped the Lady Seahawks get off to a quick start against ACS. Both pounded home clutch shots in Game 1 and helped Seward sprint to a 25-17 win.

ACS managed to fight back in the second. The Lady Lions clawed their way to within 24-19 before the Lady Seahawks regained control.

Coral Petrosius and the SHS power hitters dominated ACS in Game 3. Seward won the final frame by a commanding 25-8 clip.

With the victory, Seward improved to 8-3 in Southcentral Conference action. They trail Grace Christian for the No. 2 seed in the upcoming tournament by a single game.

Nikiski will enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Lady Bulldogs are 10-0 in conference play—although both of the wins over Seward have been close.
