Elena Hamner and Connor Spanos may not have had many friendly faces around them this past weekend at the Homer Invitational, but that didn’t stop either of the Seward swimmers from leaving their mark.

Hamner helped the SHS girls finish fifth in the girls’ team standings with a strong effort in the 500 freestyle race. She finished sixth in her event with a time of 7 minutes and 43.82 seconds.

The SHS girls’ 200-yard medley relay team was fifth, while the 200-yard free medley squad placed sixth.

Spanos garnered a bronze medal in the boys 100 butterfly race. He recorded a time of 1:03.23 in the event and finished just less than 6 seconds behind Kenai’s Hunter Reese’s first-place time.

Spanos also splashed his way to a fifth-place mark in the 50 free. His time in the race was 25.26 seconds - less than 3 seconds behind Kodiak’s Talon Lindquist’s winning mark of 22.18.
