'Captain's Mast' - Dec. 17, 2015

 


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Dec. 7

05:42 - Verbal warning for driving without head lights given at Seward Highway and Sea Lion.

10:50 - Officer responded to Pacific Park Apartments for a possibly abandoned vehicle. Officer placed an abandoned vehicle notice on the vehicle.

10:50 - Deputy Fire Chief responded to Marathon for CO detector activation.

11:11 - SAST dispatched MPVFD to Mile 69 Seward Highway for single vehicle rollover with unknown injuries. MPVFD and GVFD responded and were canceled by SAST after driver refused medical and needed only a tow truck.

11:17 - Deputy Fire Chief issued burn permit on Vista. Burn is to be five-foot by five-foot for Dec. 7 and 8.

11:49 - Citation for speed issued to Janna Hancock at Third and B.

12:00 - Verbal warning for improper stop given at the high school.

12:14 - Verbal warning for fail to stop at stop sign given at Third and Washington.

15:08 - Verbal warning for expired registration given at Third and D.

Dec. 8

05:12 - The manager for Gateway Apartments called to report that a male came to his apartment asking for an officer and an ambulance to be dispatched to an apartment. Officer responded and canceled ambulance. Officer transported the subject to the hospital. Hospital requested the officer to stand by at the hospital.

07:53 - Seward Resort planned alarm testing on Dec. 8.

09:35 - Elementary School advised they would do an ALICE drill.

10:30 - St. Peters Episcopal Church planned alarm testing on Dec. 8.

23:31 - 911 caller reported he had been threatened in relation to his testimony in a current trial and he was scared. Officers responded and found no crime had been committed. Officer took the subject to a hotel for the night.

Dec. 9

00:23 - Kenneth Richard Wardle arrested for DUI at Seward Highway and South Harbor.

08:15 - Seward Resort planned fire alarm testing for Dec. 9.

08:29 - Officer provided transport for a subject from Breeze Inn to city hall.

11:11 - Ambulance requested to SCCC. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

13:50 - 911 caller on Nash Road wanted the phone number to PSMC to ask medical questions. The caller did not want an ambulance.

14:30 - Fire drills scheduled at the elementary school on Dec. 9.

15:22 - Ambulance requested to meet LifeMed at the airport. SVAC dispatched.

16:22 - 911 caller reported a chimney fire in her home on Lincoln.

19:11 - Citation for tail light requirements issued to Tyler Finch on the Seward Highway near Chevron.

19:13 - Caller requested a welfare check on her father, who she had been unable to contact for the previous four days. Officer responded to his residence and contacted his wife, who advised everything was OK and she would have her husband call his daughter.

21:14 - Citation for head light requirements issued to Michelle Pedersen at Alice and Phoenix.

Dec. 10

00:31 - Officers gave a disorderly conduct warning to a subject. The reporting party advised of a possible domestic disturbance.

01:23 - Verbal warning for failure to register vehicle given at Seward Highway and Dieckgraeff. Officers gave FSTs. Subject was not intoxicated.

01:38 - Individual requested an officer to the elementary school for a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Officer found a vehicle belonging to a substitute teacher.

13:03 - AVTEC requested an officer to Marathon Dorm. Officer contacted Paul Wilton III and arrested him on a Palmer AST warrant ($50, FTA, OC conceal merchandise under $250) and took him to SCJ.

14:44 - 911 Test - UAF Maintenance tested the elevator at the Orca Building.

15:27 - 911 caller at Glacier View Apartments reported the construction crew outside of the building broke a window.

15:49 - Individual reported that an older, gray Ford Taurus did not stop for her red lights on the school bus on Madison. Tag information showed abandoned and did not match the vehicle description.

22:59 - SeaView reported a subject called the crisis line and said she was having suicidal thoughts. Officers transported the subject to the hospital for evaluation.

23:46 - Citation for failure to carry proof of insurance issued to Robin Probart at Mile 2.5 Seward Highway. Verbal warning for expired registration and tail light out.

Dec. 11

00:36 - Individual requested an officer to his apartment on Third for a noise complaint. Officer spoke with the reporting party who requested extra patrols.

08:36 - Guardian Security reported a burglary alarm at TYC. Officer advised the alarm was activated by a subject going to work.

09:11 - Officer responded to Resurrection Rental to advise them they had some forks in the road.

10:30 - Seward Middle School held a lock-down drill.

11:33 - Verbal warning for speed given at Essential One.

13:27 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and Airport.

15:08 - Verbal warning for tail light requirements given at Mile 1 Seward Highway.

23:26 - Joseph Daniel Dolan arrested for DUI on Third at Harbor View Inn parking lot. Verbal warning for failure to use turn signal.

23:52 - Citation for basic speed issued to Chance White at Third and C. Verbal warning for driving in violation of provisional license.

Dec. 12

00:48 - While on patrol, officer observed a door to the new AVTEC facility at Leirer and Alameda was open. Officers searched and secured the building, and spoke with the dorm attendant about the situation.

11:13 - Officer attended the Christmas parade at the American Legion.

11:58 - Individual requested to meet an officer.

13:37 - Earthquake: Magnitude 4.4, 90 miles southwest of the City of Kodiak. No tsunami was expected.

13:55 - A woman approached an officer and reported a REDDI vehicle which was passing in a no-pass zone and driving erratically. The vehicle was described as a silver truck with a flatbed.

17:05 - Caller reported a smell of rotten eggs coming from the heating system. Caller was advised to leave the premises. Dispatch advised the BCFD fire chief of location and contact information.

19:42 - Verbal warning for tail light requirement and obscured plates at Fourth and Ballaine.

19:44 - 911 caller reported her husband, was angry and throwing her belongings out of the apartment. Officers responded to Bear Mountain Apartments and separated the parties. No weapons were involved. Verbal argument only, no domestic violence involved.

21:02 - Citation for head light requirement issued to Leif Baird Bardarson at Seward Highway at Essential One.

21:10 - Caller requested a welfare check on her husband who she could not reach by phone. Officer responded. The husband said he and his wife had been arguing over the phone so he unplugged his phone. He would plug it back in the next morning. Reporting party was apprised that her husband would be available by phone in the morning.

21:12 - Verbal warning for no head lights after dark given at Three Bears.

Dec. 13

01:00 - Verbal warning for failure to change license over and driving a taxi without a chauffeur’s license given at Third and Jefferson. Subject was told to park the cab and no more fares for the night.

02:13 - Verbal warning for head light out given on the Seward Highway.

05:19 - National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Portage Valley and the Turnagain Arm for 6 p.m. Dec. 13 to 6 a.m. Dec. 14.

07:10 - Verbal warning for head light requirement given at Third and C.

09:03 - SAST received a 911 call in reference to a white, flashing light spotted on Mount Marathon. Trooper was en route, but requested that an officer check the mountain in the meantime. Officer was unable to see any flashing lights.
