Big Band Blast

When the Anchorage Community Band got together with the smaller Seward Community Band Saturday for a concert, the sound was big. There were 66 musicians packed on to the stage at the high school with an almost full house. Seward’s band organizer Kim Kowalski-Rogers said they had a “fabulous time.” The bands played 10 pieces and Anchorage conductor Neal Hagland sprung an encore piece on the bands. “He was terrific,” said Kowalski-Rogers. “He was funny, personable and he got the crowd involved.”

Kowalski-Rogers said Hagland asked the crowd how many used to play an instrument in school and a lot of hands went up. She said she has already received two calls from people interested in joining the band.
