Obihiro exchange applications due

Application deadline for the student exchange with Seward’s sister city Obihiro, Japan in 2013.

The exchange is usually in late July or in August. Exact dates for this year’s exchange are not yet announced.

Interested students submit a written application that includes an essay, letters of recommendation, and signatures of the parents and student indicating that they understand and agree to the requirements of the exchange program. Then the student participates in an interview with three to five members of the Seward community. The applicant is judged on his or her performance in the interview, on the written application and letter of recommendation.

The exchange program is a collaboration of the Seward City Clerk’s Office, Seward City Council and the Seward International Friendship Association.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 20 at 5 p.m., with applications to be turned in at Seward High School.

Information is available on the city’s website under News & Announcements at, or by calling sister city Coordinator Debbie Bond at 224-7001 or the Seward City Clerk’s Office at 224-4046.
