Flag draped Holly Brooks finishes the Mount Marathon Race with a time of 51:53.

Holly Brooks, 30 of Anchorage, won the Women’s Mount Marathon Race well ahead of the competition on July 4 with a time of 51 minutes and 53 seconds. The nordic skier and member of the Winter Olympic team for 2014, got an American flag from a spectator about a half block from the finish line and sailed through the gate with the colors flying.

Last year’s winner Kikkan Randall sat out the race to focus on training for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Lauren Fritz, 24 of Chugiak, followed in second place with a time of 54:47.

Third place went to Laura Brosius, 27 of Fairbanks, who finished with a time of 55:04.

Seward runners took fourth, fifth and sixth places. 2008 Junior winner Allison Barnwell, 20, finished fourth at 55:08. Rachel Dow, 33, was fifth with a time of 58:31. Sixth place went to 22-year-old Denali Foldager, at 59:07, who won the Junior Race in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

The record time of 50:30 set by Nancy Pease in 1990 remains the time to beat.
