The Seward City Council tipped its hat to one of its own on Monday, presenting Deborah Altermatt with an award for her service to the city.

Altermatt was given a plaque by new Mayor David Squires honoring her for her efforts to make Seward a better community during her two years on the city council and as the city's representative with the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District.

"I can honestly say it was great to have worked with you over the last couple of years," said Squires. Altermatt, who was not reelected on October 3, responded, "It was an honor and a privilege to be able to serve the community."
