Forshee-Kurtz leads Miners at Avalanche meet

Hunter Forshee-Kurts wrestled his way to five victories this past weekend and helped the Marathon Wrestling Club roll to a top 20 finish at the Avalanche Wrestling Association Tournament in Anchorage. Forshee-Kurtz was one of five Marathon wrestlers to pocket a medal during the final regular season meet of the 2017 season.

Forshee Kurtz dominated the Novice 63-69 division. He went 5-1 and easily won his second straight gold medal.

Jack Waldron and Hayden Campbell both narrowly missed gold medals in Anchorage. Waldron finished second in the Novice 149-157 standings, while Campbell was second in the Bantam 44-47 ranks.

Brett Gilmore and Colt Ogle also netted solid outings. Gilmore finished third in the Novice 70-75-pound standings, while Ogle placed third in the Cadet 210-248 ranks.

Other Marathon wrestlers competing in the tournament inluded Tommy Jarnig, Elias Hidalgo, Anthony Smith, Kotlin Barlow, Eli Higbee, Aidan Schilling, Charles Wendt, Levi DeBoard, Thomas Ooka, Kekoa Albino, Isaiah Bivins and Elisha Brueckner.

The Marathon wrestlers will be competing in the 2017 Alaska USA State Wrestling Championships this week. The tournament is scheduled for April 27-29 at the Menard Sports Complex in Wasilla.
