Ashley Jackson didn’t save her best shots for last. And the Seward High School Lady Seahawks are thrilled because of it.

Jackson knocked down three clutch shots in the first eight minutes of play on Thursday night and helped the Seward girls claim a thrilling 42-22 victor over rival Homer in a Southcentral Conference showdown in front of the home fans in the SHS gym.

Jackson helped Seward break Homer’s spirit early on. She buried a trio of three-point shots in the opening period and led the Lady ‘Hawks to a commanding 12-4 advantage.

As a team, Seward finished the contest with four three-point shots.

The Lady Mariners managed to fight their way back in the second. Homer rode the hot hand of Rylyn Todd to a 9-6 spree in the second and pulled to within 21-13 at the half.

Seward, now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Southcentral play, all but iced the game in the third. The Lady Seahawks pounded out a 14-7 run in the initial eight minutes of the second half and pushed their lead to 15, at 35-20, heading into the fourth.

Seward’s defense prevented Homer from mounting a late rally. The SHS squad limited Homer to just two points in the final period.

Jackson finished the game as Seward’s top scorer by netting 12 points. Coral Petrosius and Riley Von Borstal both added seven points.
