SMS putting out call for painters to help with mural

The Seward Mural Society is putting out a call for volunteers to help with the completion of its latest mural project.

The SMS is thrilled with this year’s beautiful design of two very large puffins by Master Artist Liza McElroy. When finished, this will be one of the largest community paint murals to enhance Seward.

The SMSis once again looking for volunteers to help paint on the project. This year, there is a new location and new dates for painting. Painting will take place in the basement of the Seward Community Library and Museum on Sept. 10-11. Painters are encourages to sign up for a morning (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) or afternoon (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) block on Saturday or Sunday. To sign up go to: and click the tab “Support 2016 Mural”. There you will find a sign-up button at the top of the page.

Many folks will have seen McElroy’s other murals in town. “Windows to the Bay” is located at Mile 0 of the Seward Highway, outside of the Alaska SeaLife Center. The large humpback whales on the south wall of Christo’s Restaurant, “Seaward Bound” was a collaborative effort with artist Justine Pechuzal.

When finished, this new large mural of two puffins will be installed on a north wall of the Harbor 360 Hotel.
