'Captain's Mast' - June 26, 2014


The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

June 14

16:55 - 911 caller Brandin Bartley reported that he was assaulted in the harbor area about a half hour before. Officer spoke with Bartley then contacted suspect Marcus Thompson, Scott Tressler and a witness. Three additional persons who witnessed were contacted. One of the subjects claimed to also be a victim by being threatened by Brandin Bartley. The incident was the result of road rage. Brandin Bartley, Marcus Thompson and Scott Tressler were each charged with Assault IV.

17:23 - Individual reported her iPhone was lost in the Bear Creek area.

18:07 - Caller reported that a truck pulling a boat was stopped at Van Buren and Third, and that there was no driver in the vehicle. Officer found out the driver was eating at Red’s. The driver moved the vehicle

21:55 - Individual reported that some people climbed on the old mill across the bay and were shooting weapons into the water. Officer did not find anyone with a weapon but one person did hear gunfire. Contact was not made with anyone.

22:08 - Breeze Inn front desk reported an intoxicated male on the second level across from Subway. Contact was made with the subject who was not a registered guest. A couple of days before he was staying at Holiday Inn Express. Subject was possibly lost. After attempts were made to find his room, he was placed into protective custody and taken to SCJ. June 16

01:01 - Verbal warning for speed and head light requirements at Seward Highway and South Harbor.

01:05 - 911 caller reported a group of people camping in Harborside Campgrounds who were in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Caller advised she witnessed them smoking weed, and saw marijuana and a pipe being stored in a purple wallet. Officers contacted an individual at the campsite. He was not suspected of possession, but was given a verbal warning for leaving food out.

01:31 - 911 caller phoned again to report the same group of campers were in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, but gave a new location of Forest Acres Campground. The caller said she was drinking by the railroad tracks. Officer contacted the subject who advised that the caller was most likely his wife. Officers found nothing suspicious. Officer requested to meet with the caller, who once again called 911. The caller met with the officers on the side of the road. She was provided transportation back to her campsite at Forest Acres. Officer remained on scene and contacted two other subjects.

04:01 - Earthquake: Magnitude 5.5, depth 14 miles, 65 miles northeast of Kotzebue. No tsunami was expected.

07:27 - Individual requested an officer to his property behind Pacific Parks Apartments about an unknown person camping in a vehicle. Officers contacted a juvenile who was trespassed from the property until Sept. 1. A message was left with the juvenile’s parents.

17:42 - Individual reported that a vehicle hit her rear view mirror while her vehicle was parked on Third. The driver of the other vehicle left a phone number and apologized for damaging her vehicle.

23:46 - PSMCC requested an ambulance to transport a patient back to Mountain Haven.

23:59 - 911 caller requested an ambulance requested to Windsong Lodge for a 3-year-old boy who was bleeding profusely from his nose.

June 17

02:10 - Verbal warning for speed and failure to stop at a stop sign given on Airport Road.

05:38 - Verbal warning for speed and tail light requirements given outside No Sweatt Auto.

05:58 - Verbal warning for speed given on the Seward Highway near Sea Lion.

06:21 - Citation for speed issued to Michael Allen at Third and B.

07:40 - Warning for parking against the flow of traffic left on a vehicle in the 200 block of Fourth.

09:17 - Burn permit issued to G & P Enterprises at 2400 block of Afognak for June 17 and 18. Burning to cease if winds are high.

09:47 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to the 2300 block of Oak Street, Mountain Haven Eagle Lodge for 80-year-old male possibly in septic shock. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

12:31 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to the 200 block of Fourth a man in his 70s having a seizure. The subject fell off the chair and also hit his head. SVFD/SVAC dispatched. Patient transported to PSMCC.

13:56 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to the 200 block of Fourth for an 84-year-old woman who was found unconscious and breathing in the bathroom. SVFD/SVAC dispatched. Patient transport to PSMCC.

14:56 - Kenai Police Department requested that an officer contact individuals who might have information about to a missing persons case.

16:55 - 911 caller reported a possible physical fight inside a motor home parked at Third and Jefferson in front of the Lutheran Church. Officers contacted two subjects. It was a verbal argument only. They were leaving and going to Anchorage and flying home.

17:58 - Individual reported a handicapped vehicle parked in front of the Alaska Shop was sticking out in the middle of the road. Officer contacted the owner who was moving his vehicle to a safer location. He did have a handicapped sticker on his license plate.

June 18

00:40 - Citation for speed issued to Andrea Philemonoff at Dieckgraeff and Seward Highway.

01:22 - Verbal warning for failure to use turn signal given on Fourth near AVTEC.

05:46 - Warning for parking against the flow of traffic left on a vehicle on Fifth near Adams.

07:47 - Burn permit issued to Seward Transfer Facility for June 18 and 19.

09:14 - Verbal warning for speed given at 801 Third.

10:28 - 911 marine radio transmission received from an 80-year-old man who was experiencing heart attack like symptoms. M/V Alaskan Explorer was en route back to Seward Boat Harbor. SVAC/SVFD dispatched to E Float. Patient was transported to PSMCC.

11:13 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Seavey’s Ididaride on Exit Glacier Road for a male having a seizure. BCVFD/SVAC dispatched. At 11:17 the caller advised subject was conscious and being transported via personal vehicle. BCVFD/SVAC advised to stand down.

11:13 - Citation for speeding issued to Tanzeel Kadiani on the Seward Highway and at NAPA.

15:50 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and A.

17:15 - Officer was stopped in the Safeway parking lot and advised of a motor vehicle accident with damage. Officer contacted drivers from Minnesota and Maine in the Safeway Parking lot.

18:55 - Guardian Flight requested a flight crew transport for the airport to Seward Mountain Haven Lupine Lodge and back to the airport.

19:06 - Individual reported two dogs in the Small Boat Harbor area.

22:02 - Individual requested a welfare check on her grandchildren in the 1800 block of Swetmann. Officer contacted two juveniles baby sitting and found the case to be unfounded.

23:16 - Yukon Bar reported an intoxicated male was refusing to leave the bar. Michael Auleta was arrested for drunk on licensed premise and taken to SCJ where he was also charged with disorderly conduct.

June 19

00:49 - Verbal warning for no headlights after dark issued on the Seward Highway near Safeway.

04:50 - 911 caller reported that a Mexican was forcing a “white kid” to drink near the skate park on Ballaine. Officer arrested Matthew Burbridge for disorderly conduct and MICS V.

07:39 - Parking warning placed on a vehicle in the 200 block of Fifth.

07:42 - Parking warning placed on a vehicle in the 200 block of Fifth.

16:10 - Troopers transferred a call from Miller’s Landing requesting an ambulance for an individual with a possible knee. SVAC/LPVFD dispatched.

17:06 - Earthquake: Magnitude 4.6, 51 miles deep, 40 miles southwest of Denali Park headquarters. No tsunami was expected.

17:29 - Individual reported a dog running loose on Phoenix Road. Officer was unable to locate the dog.

17:47 - Citation for speed issued to Nicholas Sunseri next to Terry’s Tire.

18:55 - Individual reported a male sitting up against the “Coffee Cup” building. Officer contacted the subject and asked him to move on. He moved on.

19:06 - Verbal warning for improper display of vehicle tabs given next to the Marina Motel.

19:19 - Citations for speed and expired registration issued to Kristi Trimmer at Third and C. Verbal warnings given for operating while driver being distracted. Trimmer was also advised of her suspended driver’s status.

20:19 - Citation for speed issued to Anthony Joslyn at Seward Highway and the Chamber of Commerce.

21:03 - Verbal warning for speed given at Seward Highway and Air Force Rec Camp
