The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Feb. 24

00:17 - Individual requested an officer to an apartment in the 400 block of Fourth in reference to a noise complaint. Officer contacted the tenants who agreed to keep the noise down.

01:33 - An officer contacted an individual in the ATM lobby of Wells Fargo. The subject said that he had nowhere to stay. A hotel was contacted and said that the subject could rent a room for the night. He was taken to the hotel by taxi.

08:53 - Individual requested officers to Wells Fargo for a silent alarm that was going off. Officer contacted a bank employee. All was OK. A verbal warning was given to another individual for smoking inside the ATM room.

10:18 - 911 pocket dial.

11:09 - Individual reported she had lost her makeup bag, with her medications in it, sometime during the weekend while in Seward for work.

12:14 - Individual requested to speak to an officer about someone harassing him at Bayview Apartments. An officer spoke with the reporting party.

12:19 - Individual with Wells Fargo requested an officer for a subject who was refusing to leave the premises. Officer contacted the subject and he left the premises in a taxi.

12:55 - 911 call received from the elevator at the senior center. There was no answer on call back. Made contact with center who checked the elevator and said there appeared to be no need for assistance.

13:59 - SAST advised they were transporting Tamara McDaniel for a warrant arrest from Camelot Subdivision.

13:59 - 911 pocket dial.

14:28 - 911 pocket dial.

16:45 - 911 open-line call.

17:15 - Officer left warnings on two vehicles for parking in a fire lane at Seward High School.

17:24 - Officer left a warning on a vehicle for parking in a handicap zone at Seward High School.

Feb. 25

02:53 - 911 caller requested an officer to Kimberly Court about tenants who were fighting, and the male tenant had stepped outside and yelled at the caller and another party who were talking outside. The caller said that the manager had arrived. Officer contacted two subjects who were engaged in a domestic dispute. One subject was given a disorderly conduct warning.

06:56 - Earthquake: Magnitude 4.7, depth 56 miles, 100 miles southwest of Kodiak City. No tsunami was expected.

08:10 - Individual requested an officer to Sacred Heart Church for an subject who entered the premises unauthorized. Officer contacted the subject and advised him to leave the building but he could remain on the curtilage until mass.

09:48 - Seward Fisheries advised they were conducting their monthly fire drills.

11:35 - 911 elevator emergency phone check received from Seward Senior Center elevator maintenance personnel checking the emergency phone.

11:49 - 911 pocket dial.

12:35 - Individual requested an officer to Sacred Heart Church for an subject who needed to be removed from the premises indefinitely. Officer contacted the subject who was advised to leave the premises and was also advised he has been permanently trespassed from the property.

12:57 - 911 - Arctic Elevator advised they would be testing the elevator at the High School and would call when testing was completed.

14:02 - Individual reported a vehicle that was swerving in between the lanes headed south on Fourth. Officer contacted the vehicle at Nash Road. Negative for DUI. Subject was eating while driving. Verbal warning given to the driver for erratic driving.

15:25 - Safeway manager requested an officer for a motor vehicle accident with damage.

16:26 - 911 open-line call.

17:45 - Individual reported to an officer that her daughter was possibly being assaulted by her boyfriend at residence on Nash Road. SAST was notified and requested an officer to assist. An SPD officer, along with a trooper contacted two subjects. After AST and officer’s investigation, no assault occrued.

19:16 - Ambulance was requested to Monroe for a male with stomach pain.

22:16 - Verbal warning for speed given at Fourth and North Harbor Street.

Feb. 26

07:15 - Individual reported an unknown alarm sounding at the Qutekcak building. Officers and fire personnel responded and investigated. The building was affirmed to be fire safe with no signs of a break in.

08:40 - Individual reported that there was a male who made threats to cut their heads off inside the post office when she was there. Officers contacted the subject who was advised not to smoke on the property and not to harass the patrons.

09:22 - SPD was advised that Dieckgraeff Road was covered in ice and cars were sliding towards the ditch. DOT notified.

10:04 - KPB Maintenance advised they would be working on the sprinkler system at the elementary school.

10:12 - Seward Bus Line reported that the highway from Mile 12 to Seward was icy. Caller said DOT sanded. However, it was still slick.

10:28 - Officer requested a case number for fraud.

10:29 - Individual requested an officer to Terry’s Tires for a backpack that was found on the property. Officer picked up backpack. Parent later picked up the property from SPD.

12:28 - 911 misdial.

12:48 - Communications Alaska requested the fire department for an unknown fire alarm at 302 Railway, SeaView Plaza Building. SVFD/SVAC responded. The alarm was found in the basement which stirred up dust due to vacuuming.

14:11 - Citation for expired registration issued to Joshua Leatherman at Resurrection Rentals.

14:27 - Citation for speed issued to Perry Neel at Seward Highway and Air Force Rec Camp.

15:56 - An individual had been sitting outside the post office all day in his wheelchair. Post office personnel asked that he be trespassed from the lobby after business hours. Officer advised him.

16:52 - Citation for speed issued to Michael Kevin Wolfe near Third and Monroe.

17:06 - An individual was taken from the post office to PSMCC ER.

18:36 - Richard Hubbard assaulted an officer. Charge was Assault IV.

18:37 - Individual requested an officer to settle a verbal argument with his wife over a cell phone.

23:23 - Richard Hubbard taken from Seward Hospital to Wildwood where he was charged with Assault IV.

23:57 - Individual reported a motor vehicle rollover on the side of Mile 32 Seward Highway.

Feb. 27

01:46 - Troopers arrested Lastan Williams for DUI and took the subject to SCJ.

08:02 - Verbal warning for speed given at Third and D.

08:34 - 911 pocket-dial.

09:38 - 911 misdial.

09:54 - PSMCC advised they would be testing the emergency alarm at the nurses’ station.

10:35 - Officer responded to an accident with damage at Third and South Harbor Street.

10:56 - 911 misdial.

12:00 - Citation for speed issued to Irene Ransom at Third and B.

12:09 - Individual requested an officer to Safeway for a Ford F-150, red with a canopy on it, driven by two teenage boys that had parked in the handicapped parking area. Caller called back and advised that the teens had returned to the high school. Officer contacted the juvenile driver who was advised of usage of a handicapped area.

13:11 - Citation for expired registration issued to Deborah Tressler at Third and North Harbor.

13:21 - Individual turned in a box of expired medication for destruction.

13:40 - Individual turned in a MasterCard debit card.

13:38 - 911 misdial.

13:49 - Individual reported a possible intoxicated male who was staggering down the highway. Officer contacted the subject who was advised to stay out of the road.

18:29 - Troopers were attempting to stop two vehicles that they had been trying to stop for five miles. Troopers requested SPD assistance in stopping the lead vehicle which was a white Ford Edge. Before SPD arrived on scene the Troopers stopped both vehicles, believed to be rental cars. SPD was cancelled by the Troopers.

19:39 - Verbal warning for speed given near Madison on Ballaine.

21:30 - Misdemeanor summons for driving with only an instructional permit issued to Corinna Rochele Moore at Mile 1 Seward Highway. Verbal warning given for speed.

21:40 - 911 caller requested an ambulance to Mountain Haven, Raven Lodge, for a female with a fever.

Feb. 28

01:06 - 911 abandoned call.

01:07 - Individual reported an intoxicated man out front of Tony’s Bar who urinated on the sidewalk. Officer met with the reporting party outside Tony’s. The intoxicated man was identified and the officer confirmed that he made it safely back to his nearby apartment.

02:23 - The bartender at the Alehouse reported that a customer walked out and had not returned by the end of the night to pay a $70 tab. The bartender spoke with an officer and said she would consult with the manager the following day to find out if they wished to press charges.

11:14 - Individual reported that they accidentally set off the fire alarm at the Icicle Seafood Cookhouse at Leirer Road. Reporting party said there was no fire or smoke.

12:00 - 911 call from the senior center advised their driver could hear a female at Glacier View Apartments yelling for help. Officer and SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

13:37 - Individual turned in a Wells Fargo debit card

15:14 - Individual requested an officer for several intoxicated people who were getting loud at the restrooms across the street. Officer contacted two subjects, issued disorderly conduct warnings to both and advisements entered on both for the license statuses.

15:25 - 911 misdial.

15:27 - Verbal warning given at Mile 1 Seward Highway.

23:43 - 911 abandoned call.

March 1

00:24 - Officer assisted Troopers with Christopher Campbell being arrested for DWLR on Nash Road near Salmon Creek. Subject was transported by SPD officer to SCJ.

01:47 - A driver was stopped at Seward Highway and Hemlock after an officer observed her swerving. A verbal warning was issued to the passenger for failure to wear seat belt.

01:48 - Individual reported seeing the taxi with all the duck statue embellishment, traveling northbound on Third passing North Harbor and swerving.

09:59 - Manager of the Old Buick Building at 300 Washington reported a door kick on an entrance to the upstairs part of the building. He said that there was a footprint on the door and that the door jam was damaged.

12:53 - Individual reported that someone threw a rock through the window at the dental office at 400 Fourth. The rock was still in the window.

18:32 - Citation for speed issued to Ronald Schrock on the Seward Highway next to the Chamber of Commerce.

19:19 - Officer trespassed an individual from all bars for the night after he attempted to remand himself to SCJ intoxicated.

20:17 - Citation for speed issued to Curtis Berry at Airport Road. He was given a verbal warning for obscured plate.

21:56 - Individual reported two to four people on the rooftop of Seward Brewery. Officer found footprints on the roof, but was unable to locate anyone.

23:37 - Individual reported two chocolate labs running loose near Bayview Apartments. Officer transferred the dogs to the animal shelter.

March 2

00:13 - Individual called from Gateway Liquor threatening to commit a crime so he might be able to serve time on a prior charge. Officer contacted the subject at Seward Highway and North Harbor. Subject was taken PSMCC after requesting medical attention.

04:10 - Two individuals reported that a tall skinny male wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans left the bar in a cab at 02:15 hours and booked a room in a hotel. Around 04:10 it was noted that his vehicle was no longer in front of the bar. Officer located the vehicle parked, vacant, in front of the Pit Bar. Shortly thereafter the vehicle was observed in operation and was stopped on Exit Glacier Road at approximately mile 1. At 04:41 Jason Eaton was arrested for DUI with PBT .129. Eaton was taken to SCJ. Eaton was given verbal warnings for failure to use blinker and swerving.

10:15 - Guardian Security called in a fire alarm at the Holiday Inn Express, second floor. It was cancelled prior to dispatch by Holiday Inn Express and Guardian Security. Dust from construction had set it off.

14:25 - Earthquake: Magnitude 6.6, Ryukyu Islands. No tsunami was expected.

11:48 - Caller reported a transformer on a power pole near Grouse Lake Road was buzzing really loud.

14:06 - 911 misdial.

14:42 - Guardian Security advised of a general fire alarm at Glacier View Apartments. An apartment was smoky due to cooking and required a fan to blow out the smoke.

21:01 - Multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle swerving in and out of its lane from Nash Road southbound on the Seward Highway, and was parked at Safeway. Officer arrested Debbie Astbury in the Safeway Parking lot for DUI and NVOL, and took her to SCJ. She was also issued a citation for open container.

March 3

00:48 - 911 abandoned call.

03:23 - 911 abandoned call..

03:36 - 911 abandoned call..

11:16 - SVAC was requested to the airport for a medical transport.

12:35 - Individual turned in a black tri-fold wallet with multiple identifications/driver license’s in it.

15:52 - 911 open-line call.

17:00 - Troopers arrested Christopher George on a warrant for Assault IV and took him to SCJ.

17:07 - 911 open-line call.

17:45 - Verbal warning for erratic driving given at Seward Highway and Sea Lion.
