Local man killed in highway crash


Douglas C. Fletcher, 44 of Seward, was killed Thursday evening in a head-on collision at Mile 106 Seward Highway. According to an Alaska State Trooper report, Fletcher’s wife Maria Kobzeva, 24, was driving southbound in a Subaru station wagon in which Fletcher was a passenger. When she moved into the northbound lane to pass a vehicle in front of her, the Subaru struck a northbound Mercedes sedan.

Fletcher was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Kobzeva, and the passengers of the Mercedes, Per Bjorn-Roli, 69, and Maria Bjorn-Roli, 60, of Anchorage were transported to Anchorage by ambulance for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
