Art for Parks Celebrates the marine mammals
Kenai Fjords National Park
Student, Emmalee Deland, shows off her marine mammal, a humpback named “Salmon Chainsaw Blueberry.”
Last week students at Seward schools worked on art projects, with the help of local artists, to celebrate National Park Week. They depicted marine mammal (whales, seals, sea lions, otters, and some narwhal or walrus from further north) as part of the National Park Service’s Art for Parks program which provided supplies and rangers.
A display of the artwork begins from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 4 at Kenai Fjords National Park’s Information Center in the small boat harbor and kicks off the first First Friday art event of the season. The art will be on display at the Information Center through May 18.
The park thanked the artists who donated their time to made the show possible — Dot Bardarson, Kira Hansen, Bethany Waggoner, Callie Stark, Amy Hankins, Krista Doersch, Krista Rodby and Maddy Rea.
