Mount Marathon Race applications due March 31
Applications for the 85th annual Mount Marathon Race are due to the Seward Chamber of Commerce, Conference and Visitors Bureau by midnight March 31.Applications can be completed online at www.seward.com. Application fees are $65 for adults and $25 for junior runners. Veterans and 2011 finishers have priority, with the remaining slots filled through a lottery system. Film fest rescheduled
The rescheduled 2012 Alaska Ocean Film Festival washes ashore at 7 p.m. March 24, K.M. Rae Building. Showtime is 7pm. Viewers can elude sea monsters in Holland, canoe from Valdez to Whittier, and more in this action-packed evening of ocean shorts. Tickets are $5. The festival is sponsored by the Resurrection Bay Conservation Alliance and the Alaska Center for the Environment.
Flood meeting planned
The Seward/Bear Creek Flood Service Area holds its regular board meeting at 7 p.m. April 2 in the Seaview Plaza Building, KPB Annex Office, Suite 122. The public is invited to attend. Agendas are available at the office at 302 Railway Ave, Suite 123 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday thru Thursday or on the SBCFSA Website at www.sewardbearcreekfloodservicearea.org.
Free tax preparation in Seward
Trained tax preparation volunteers are available to prepare and e-file returns at Seward Senior Center, 336 Third Ave ., courtesy of the AARP Foundation and the IRS. There are no age restrictions and volunteers are able to complete most individual returns. Sessions available are 8 to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through April 11. Appointments are preferred, but walk ins are welcomed. Call 224-5604 for an appointment or information.
Job fair set
The Seward Community/AVTEC Job Fair will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 9 in the AVTEC Student Service Center Gym and Auditorium at 519 Fourth. Job seekers prepare now to meet with employers and explore career opportunities. For information contact the Seward Job Center at 224-5276.
