Have you ever heard about donating your voice? Yes, you can actually donate your voice to a project which uses real voices to create specific, personalized voices for people who cannot speak, or who have speech impediments. The group doing this has created the Human Voicebank Initiative, and they hope to collect one million voice samples by 2020. Their web site is http://www.vocalid.co, and even kids can donate their voices.

Just imagine if your voice could help someone say the words, “Please help me,” or “Pray for me,” or even “I love you.” What if you could speak for those who can’t speak? What if you could be a voice for the “voiceless?”

“Having a voice” has become a metaphor for being able to stand up for yourself, and make your needs and wishes known. Not everyone in our society has a voice. The homeless, the mentally ill, the incarcerated, the pre-born as well as victims of injustice, poverty and violence. Who will speak for them?

Haile Selassie once said, “Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph.”

Proverbs 31:8-9 in the Common English Bible (CEB) says:

“Speak out on behalf of the voiceless,

and for the rights of all who are vulnerable.

Speak out in order to judge with righteousness,

and to defend the needy and the poor.”

Through Jesus Christ, God has enabled anyone who wishes the ability to come into His presence and be heard. God desires to hear your voice.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil.” Do you know someone who is suffering, or who needs a friend? Someone who needs a job or a place to stay? A young person who needs a mentor or a big brother? A community project that needs a helping hand?

This Thanksgiving, become a voice for those who are voiceless. Find a cause that is worth speaking up about, and then get involved in our community to be a voice that will be heard. Every voice counts—including yours!

Blessings to all of you, and to your family and friends, this Holiday Season!
