Connor Spanos prepares to step on the platform for the start of the 100-yard butterfly race at the 2017 ASAA State Swimming and Diving Championships. He finished eighth in the race.

Connor Spanos etched his name a bit deeper into Seward High School history this past weekend with a solid outing at the ASAA State Swimming and Diving Championships in Palmer.

The 15-year-old put Seward into the scorebooks by turning in a stellar effort in the boys' 100-yard butterfly race. He managed to punch his ticket to the finals by edging out a host of other swimmers from across the state in the preliminaries. His time in the prelims was among the eight fastest and secured him a spot in the finals.

In the finals, Spanos swam his way to a time of 54.90 seconds and finished eighth.

Backed by Spanos' efforts, Seward finished 22nd in the overall team standings. Thunder Mountain claimed the state swimming championship with 94 points. Dimond and Kodiak rounded out the top three spots in the boys' standings. Dimond edged out Kodiak for the girls' state crown.
