The Seward City Council put the finishing touches on a hire that had been weeks in the making on Friday, Oct. 26.

Following a special meeting, Seward Mayor David Squires announced the council had reached an agreement with Brenda Ballou to serve as city clerk. She replaces Johanna Kinney, who resigned earlier this month to take a position with the Alaska SeaLife Center. The council had postponed its formal hiring of Ballou at its recent meeting to replace wording in the contract.

Ballou had previously serves as the deputy city clerk.
