The Seward Lady Seahawks made sure Maille Moriarty, Jessi Hood and Randi Toalson had a special experience to remember on their final appearance on their home court on Saturday afternoon. Playing in front of a large Senior Night crowd, the Lady Seahawks hammered out a three-game sweep of rival Homer.

The Lady Seahawks rode a strong effort from Ashley Jackson and Riley Von Borstel to a thrilling 28-26 win in the first game of the best-of-five series. They followed that Game 1 victory with wins of 25-19 and 25-23.

Moriarty, Hood and Toalson were all recognized during Senior Night activities.

The victory was important for Seward, clinching at least a tie for third in the Southcentral Conference standings heading into the Region III Volleyball Championships.

Seward, which can clinch the No. 3 seed this weekend with a win over Anchorage Christian, turned in an equally impressive outing on Friday despite dropping a 3-2 decision to Nikiski.

Nikiski, which leads the conference race with an 11-0 record, grabbed a quick lead in the showdown by winning Game 1 by a 25-12 margin.

Seward roared back in Game 2, however. The Lady Seahawks rallied from an early deficit to net a 25-21 victory.

Nikiski and Seward split the ensuing two frames and forced a decisive fifth game.

Nikiski escaped with a tough 15-13 margin in Game 5.

The Lady Seahawks, after facing ACS on Friday, will close out their regular season on October 27 in Anchorage against Grace Christian.
