Although the Seward Seahawks didn’t pick up as many wins as they had wanted on the field this season, that certainly didn’t stop the team from receiving plenty of praise from the conference’s coaches. A total of 11 SHS standouts, including seniors Sage Ferguson, Brandon Lynch and Elisha Brueckner, were named to the All-Peninsula Conference football rosters last week.

Ferguson, Lynch and Brueckner helped guide the Seahawks to a 2-6 campaign this season.

Beau Freinberg also highlighted Seward’s selections to the postseason honor squad. A junior, Freiberg was the Seahawks’ lone first-team selection. He was named the conference’s best long snapper.

Ferguson and Lynch were among seven SHS standouts selected to the second-team roster.

Ferguson was selected to the team as both an offensive and defensive lineman, while Lynch earned a spot as a fullback. Defensive line standout Derek Harshman was also named to the second-team squad, as were Freiberg and Shayne Sullivan, who was picked as both a wide receiver and kick returner.

Freiberg was tabbed at linebacker.

Gabe Schrock also turned enough heads to earn a spot as a Utility player. During the 2017 season, Schrock lined up at eight different spots for the Seahawks, including running back, tight end, tackle, linebacker, safety, center, defensive end and kick returner.

Brueckner was among five SHS players selected to the honorable mention squad, having made the squad as an offensive tackle in his only season as a member of the Seahawk football program.

Also making the honorable mention roster were tight end Chad Quinn, quarterback/safety Kris Kingsland, Freiberg as a running back, Harshman as a center, cornerback Collin Mullaly and Sullivan as a linebacker.

Homer dominated the conference’s honors, claiming three of the four top awards. Senior Teddy Croft was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Levi King was tabbed the Lineman of the Year. Homer head coach Walter Love was selected the Peninsula Conference’s Coach of the Year.

Voznesenka’s David Sanarov was chosen the defensive player of the year.
