Neil Lindquist, Max Pfeiffenberger and Trey Ingalls made it official this past weekend. The Class of 2021 will be heard from.

A lot.

The three Seward High School freshmen submitted head-turning performances on Saturday at the Government Peak Recreational Area in Palmer and helped power their team to a fourth-place finish at the Region III Cross-Country Championships. With the finish, the three helped Seward secure a berth in this weekend’s Class 1A-2A-3A state meet in Anchorage.

Lindquist became the third member of his family to secure a berth in the state meet by turning in an impressive effort in the boys’ 5-kilometer race. He raced his way to fifth in the final standings with a time of 18 minutes and 8.08 seconds.

Lindquist’s time was the second-fastest among all Kenai Peninsula runners, trailing only Homer’s Jacob Davis, who finished third at 17:56.75. Anchorage Christian’s Blake Bennett won the regional title with a run of 17:15.27.

By placing fifth, Lindquist will join his sisters, Ruby and Sadie, at the state meet on September 30 at Bartlett High School.

Pfeiffenberger and Ingalls added to the Seahawks’ impressive outing. Pfeiffenberger sprinted his way to a 12th-place finish by turning in a time of 18:51.93. Ingalls, the fourth SHS runner to claim a spot in the top 20, turned in a time of 19:46.94 and finished 20th.

Senior Zen Petrosius was the Seahawks’ other top 20 runner. He raced his way to 17th overall with a time of 19:21.54.

Sophomore Jaden Van Dyke rounded out the SHS scorers. He placed 21st with a time of 19:47.55.

As a team, the Seward runners tallied 75 points. Anchorage Christian won the Region III title with 39. Homer placed second.

Samuel Koster, the fourth member of the Seahawks’ list of talented freshmen, and junior Brandan McMurray also did well in the race. Koster placed 25th at 20:14.90, while McMurray was 27th at 20:40.33.
