Spanos nets silver in Homer

Connor Spanos continued to make his presence felt on the state swimming scene over the weekend. The Seward High School standout raced his way to a silver medal on Saturday and helped spur the Seahawks to seventh in the team standings at the Kenai Swimming and Diving Championships. In all, Seward was among more than a dozen boys’ and girls’ teams from throughout the region participating in the meet.

Spanos garnered Seward’s lone medal in the competition by finishing second in the 100-yard butterfly event. He posted a time of 57.56 seconds in the race and finished less than 2 seconds off the winning pace set by Kenai Central’s Hunter Reese.

Reese won the event with a time of 55.65.

Joshua Park also starred for Seward in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100 free races. He placed 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke race with a mark of 1:31.35. He was 16th in the 100 free at 1:11.92.

Karl Pfeiffenberger was 14th in the 100 free standings with a time of 1:07.18

Kylie Mullaly paced the Seward girls’ team. She posted a sixth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke and an eighth-place mark in the 50 free. Her time of 1:23.62 in the breaststroke event garnered Seward’s lone point.

Mullaly also teamed with Megan Koster, Elena Hamner and Meghan Mullaly to finish eighth in the 200-yard free relay standings.

Meghan Mullaly and Hamner were 11th and 16th in the 50 free race, respectively.

Meghan Mullaly also finished 10th in the 100 free.

Koster splashed her way to 14th in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke.
