And then there was one.

The Seward City Council didn’t have to eliminate anyone during their search for a potential replacement for the city clerk position. The candidates did it themselves.

Earlier this month the council selected three candidates for the clerk position. Of those three, only one, Deputy City Clerk Brenda Ballou, made it to the interview on Monday, Sept. 18.

Before his scheduled interview, James S. Toth informed the clerk’s office that he was removing himself as a candidate. The other finalist for the position, Andy Bacon, dropped out on Sept. 7.

The city council will make its final decision at its upcoming meeting on Sept. 25.

The city council needs to fill the clerk's position by Oct. 7, the final day for current clerk Johanna Kinney, who is resigning to take a position with the Alaska SeaLife Center
