Lady 'Hawks open SCC play with wins two wins at home

The Seward High School Lady Seahawks opened Southcentral Conference action on a high note this past weekend. The Lady Seahawks won two of their three games, including victories over Redington and Houston.

Seward kicked off its conference schedule on Thursday with a 3-0 victory over the Redington Lady Huskies. After opening the match with wins of 25-12 and 25-13, the Lady Hawks picked up a dominating effort from Allie Toloff and Riley Von Borstel to close out the sweep.

After Redington had fought its way to within 9-7, Toloff served up 11 straight points and powered the SHS girls to a commanding 20-7 advantage.

Seward suffered its only setback of the weekend on Friday with a 3-2 loss to the Grace Christian Lady Grizzlies.

Grace managed to break a 2-2 deadlock in Game 5 by taking a tough 15-8 victory.

After Grace Christian had taken Game 1 by 25-16, Seward fought its way back with a 25-15 win in Game 2. The Lady Grizzlies took Game 3, 28-26.

Seward didn't roll over. The Lady Seahawks forced a decisive fifth game by winning Game 4, 25-22.

Seward closed out its weekend series on Saturday with an easy win over Houston. Seward posted wins of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-20 en route to a sweep of the best-of-five showdown.

Seward, which will play in the Grace Christian tournament on October 6, will make its next home appearance on September 28, when they host the Anchorage Christian Lady Lions.
