The crew of the USCG Mustang got into the helping spirit recently by collecting items for emergency responders and victims of Hurricane Harvey, a Class 4 storm that struck the Texas Gulf Coast on August 25. The storm dumped more than 50 inches of rain on the Gulf Coast area, including the city of Houston.

The Mustang crew accepted donations through September. 6. According to crew members, the items were sent to the Coast Guard’s District 7 headquarters in New Orleans, Louisiana. From there, the donations will be distributed to those affected by the storm.

Among the items the crew collected for responders as well as victims of the storm were personal items from toiletries to T-shirts, bug spray to brownies (individually wrapped), plus diapers and formula for children.

The USCG Mustang is home-ported in Seward.
