The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) will offer its popular Cold-Water Safety & Survival Training for Educators, online starting Sept. 18, 2017. The 14-week course is offered through the University of Alaska Southeast-Sitka campus. Two 593 continuing education credits may be awarded upon completion.

The course teaches the content youth educators need to teach children and young adults to play and work safely around cold water. Topics covered include, cold-water safety & survival, hypothermia, personal flotation devices, ice safety & rescue, and risk assessment.

The course is built around AMSEA’s activity based K-12 curriculum, Surviving Outdoor Adventures.  Materials are presented through fun computer-based activities, as well as interaction with fellow students and the instructor in online forums.

Interested educators may register online at or call (907) 747-3287.
