In 1967, Seward Mayor Richard Kirkpatrick joined Dennis Deck, Nancy Amend, Dan Bair and Seward Chamber of Commerce President Willard Dunham in presenting numerous gifts to the community's "sister city" of Seward, Nebraska. Seward, Nebraska, was celebrating the centennial of the state's statehood in 1967, just as Seward, Alaska, was celebrating the 100th anniversary of the purchase of Alaska from Russia.
