The Seward High School Lady Seahawks nailed down their second straight impressive showing in tournament play on Saturday in Nikiski.

Fresh off a second-place finish at the season-opening Homer Jamboree, the Lady Seahawks advanced to the championship game of the 10th Annual Shayna Pritchard Memorial Volleyball Tournament. Seward finished second following a tough 2-1 loss to Nikiski.

Sparked by all-tournament performances from Maille Moriarty, Riley Von Borstel and Ashley Jackson, the SHS girls grabbed the upper hand early in the championship game. Seward outscored Nikiski by a 25-16 clip in the first game of the best-of-three series.

Nikiski rallied to take Game 2 by a 25-19 clip and force a decisive third frame.

Seward looked as if it would survive Nikiski’s rally attempt. The Lady Seahawks built a 13-10 lead in Game 3 before the Lady Bulldogs hit stride. Niksiki scored the game’s final five points to close out the contest.

Seward will return to action this weekend when it hosts its own tournament.
