Seward High School head coach Kelly Cinereski knew his team would take a few knocks in the first three weeks of the high school football season. Facing the defending state champion and state runner-up in back-to-back weeks tends to do that.

The Seahawks suffered their second tough loss on Friday when they dropped a 34-0 decision to the Houston Hawks.

With the loss, Seward saw its season record dip to 1-2. Houston, which edged out the Seahawks in the state semifinals a year ago, improved to 1-1.

Houston’s 34 unanswered points stretched Seward’s scoreless string to eight consecutive quarters. In their last two outings, the SHS offense has been outscored by a 90-0 clip.

Beau Freiburg paced the Seahawks’ offense in the showdown with Houston.
