Stephen "Captain Steve" Alexander Miller, 69, of Seward passed away peacefully on August 9, 2017, from complications caused by stage four lung cancer.

Cremation has been handled by Peninsula Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Scattering of ashes will take place at a future date.

A Celebration of Life was held at his home at Lowell Point on Sunday, August 20, at 3:30 p.m.

Steve was born July 2, 1948, in Clovis, Fresno County, California. His family moved to Alaska when he was 2 years old. Seward (Lowell Point) became home port. The family moved in 1957 to Latouche Island, where they lived until 1961 when they returned to Seward.

Steve graduated from Seward High School in 1967 and answered the call of the sea, moving to Kodiak to work as a commercial fisherman. In 1971 he moved back to Seward and pursued a career in the merchant marine industry which lasted for over 40 years.

After his sea time was spent he settled in Seward, finally making Lowell Point his home. He enjoyed his family, cooking, tinkering in his shop, smoking salmon, reading and gardening. He raised chickens and turkeys, and enjoyed being retired.

Steve was an active member of Lowell Point Community Council and was always willing to give back to his community. He donated to Seward Food Bank and helped those less fortunate. He touched people's lives all over Alaska and will be missed by many.

Steve is survived by his brother Michael A. Miller/Sherrie; sisters Mary A Miller and Margaret E Davis/Carey; many loving nieces and nephews, and other family and friends far and wide.

Steve is preceded in death by his older brother Rodger P. Miller, March 19, 2017; niece Penny Francis Miller, July 22, 2017; wife, Mary Katheryne Walker-Miller, May 23, 2015; mother Ethel L. "Penny" Hardy, April 22, 2007; and youngest sister Linda S. Miller, June 7, 1967.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Seward Community Foundation in the name of Steve Miller at https://sewardcf.org/donate/.
