The Alaska Watercolor Juried Exhibition opened on August 4. Bardarson was unable to receive the award in person because of a commitment to a solo show at Resurrect Art on the same date.

Kathleen Conover, one of the judges at the Anchorage event, remarked on the exceptional quality of the paintings entered.

Bardarson's show at Resurrect Art, titled "Flower Power," was held during Seward's First Friday activities.

As an artist and musician, Bardarson said, she likes the shapes and colors of musical instruments that evoke the music they make. She often listens to classical music on her compact disc player while she paints in her studio.

The competition show will remain on display at the Leah Peterson Gallery at Alaska Pacific University, 4101 University Drive, through August 30.
