City: Beware of calls seeking utility account information

The City of Seward is advising residents to use caution when answering calls asking for personal utility account information.

According to Seward City Clerk Johanna Kinney, city officials have been receiving reports that misleading calls are being made to Seward utility customers by individuals claiming to be associated with Chugach Electric Association and/or the Seward Electric Department. These callers have requested residents verify account numbers, phone numbers and payment on utility accounts. The callers also are threatening to disconnect service for failure to pay. Kinney noted Chugach Electric will not be calling Seward utility customers.

She also said residents who are uncertain if Seward utility employees are calling should not give out any information. Instead, call the utility counter at 224-4050 or come to Seward City Hall.
