The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

July 15

2332 - RP requested an Officer go to the skate park for the report of people being loud even though the skate park is supposed to be closed. Officer responded and spoke to the group and they agreed to leave.

2339 - RP reported that there were 2 girls swinging in hammocks on Railway Ave making a lot of noise. Officer was not able to locate anyone in hammocks on Railway Avenue.

July 16

0040 - Citation issued to PERRY TRENT TUEY at Third and Van Buren for speed.

0304 - Verbal warning given to SETH E FIERMAN at Seward Highway and Nash Road for speed.

0718 - Ambulance requested to Big Bear. Forms sent. SVAC/BCFD

0800 - RP advised that his 24 foot Bayliner was tied up at the Polar Seafoods dock, and that he needed towed back to the harbor. The harbormaster was advised and stated they were towing him back to the harbor.

0844 - An ambulance was requested to the Breeze Inn.

1011 - A 911 open line was received from the harbor area. No sounds of distress were heard over the line. On call back, a voicemail was left and an officer was advised.

1039 - A 911 open line was received from the harbor area. No sounds of distress were heard over the line. On call back, a voicemail was left and an officer was advised.

1045 - A 911 open line was received from the harbor area. No sounds of distress were heard over the line. On call back, a voicemail was left and an officer was advised.

1049 - A 911 open line was received from the harbor area. No sounds of distress were heard over the line. On call back, a voicemail was left and an officer was advised.

1057 - A 911 open line was received from the harbor area. No sounds of distress were heard over the line. On call back, a voicemail was left and an officer was advised. Officer attempted to make contact with registered cell phone owner’s address. Officer made contact with phone owner at his. Subject stated that the phone was with his wife. Officer responded and spoke with the wife who stated everything was okay, the phone was just left in her purse and kept dialing.

1131 - RP called and reported that his vehicle was hit in the Kenai Fjords Tours parking lot in front of the main building on 4th by a motorhome. An officer was advised and attempted to locate the vehicle. Great Alaskan Holidays was able to provide the driver’s information but was unable to be contacted via phone call, but a voicemail was left. Seward Parks and Rec was advised to BOLO for the suspect vehicle. Officer located the vehicle in the uplands parking lot. KFT was contacted and stated the family was on a tour and would return at 1730. Officer will issue citations for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Exercise Due Caution when subject returns from the tour.

1145 - RP advised that there was a small blue vehicle, possibly a Fiat, driving dangerously southbound on the Seward Highway past Safeway. Officer was advised and was unable to find any vehicle matching the description in the area.

1250 - RP requested a welfare check on subject he hadn’t seen in five days. Officer responded and found subject to be deceased. SVAC and SVFD responded to scene. The next of kin has been notified.

July 17

0305 - NTWC reported a magnitude 6.5 earthquake 120 miles southeast of the Bering Islands. No tsunami expected.

0324 - A citation was issued to AFASENE HUNKIN for speed on 4th Avenue and Seward Highway, and a verbal warning was given for failure to carry proof of registration.

0545 - A warning was left on the vehicle JHW140 for parking against the flow of traffic on 3rd Avenue and Madison Street.

0953 - Ambulance requested to the Glacierview Apartment. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

1002 - RP turned in a Bank Americard. Info entered in Lost/Found Book.

1233 - Citation issued to NANCY NIX while at 3rd and B Street for speed.

1403 - Citation issued to DEVIN LOOMIS while driving at Mile 2 Seward for fail to show proof of insurance. Verbal warning for no taillight and impeding vision of windshield.

1441 - Fish House reported two males that attempted to take a coat from the store. RP described one male wearing a gray hoodie and the other male wearing a camo hoodie with Prudhoe Bay written on it. RP advised last seen at the ballfields by Ballaine. Officer responded and unable to locate suspects. Investigation continuing.

1611 - NTWC reported a magnitude 7.8 earthquake 120 miles southeast of Bering Islands. Tsunami advisory in effect for the Aleutian Islands. Tsunami advisory was cancelled by NTWC at 513pm.

2119 - RP reported that a male and woman had an altercation about an hour ago at Resurrection Campground. RP reported the woman was leaving in an RV heading north out of town. Officer responded and pulled the vehicle over at Seward Highway and arrested MICHELLE MEGANACK for DUI.

2324 - BCVFD called in a lightning strike at the corner of South Fork Ln and Seward Highway and requested a tone out for BCVFD but not SVAC. BCVFD responded and determined that there was no fire and no danger of a fire spreading.

July 18

1100 - RP turned in expired medications for destruction at City Hall.

1200 - RP asking if the noon siren was for a tsunami. Officer advised.

1228 - NTWC reported a 5.0 earthquake located 100 miles SW of Attu. No tsunami reported.

1330 - RP wanted to speak to an Officer reference possible forgery. Officer spoke with RP and obtained information and investigation continuing.

1430 - DMV advised that while DMV was closed, they were notified by the Clerks Office that a male was yelling and banging on the DMV door. Chief is looking into this with cameras from IT.

1522 - RP reported the theft of a boat motor from his boat at the SBH. Officer spoke with RP.

1651 - A power outage was reported in the Old Mill area. On call electric was notified.

1800 - A dog was found near the Sealife Center and turned in at the police department. Owner was notified and picked the dog up at the station.

1826 - A 911 misdial was received from 907-***** and caller stated she did not mean to call she misunderstood the instructions on the phone. No sound of distress and Officer was notified.

1939 - RP reported that subject had backed his motorhome into another motorhome at 4th Ave. Officer responded issued both parties PAR forms and determined $500-1000 of damage.

2100 - Ambulance dispatched to Chevron. SVAC transported patient to hospital.

2241 - RP requested a welfare check on a guy that was stumbling down the sidewalk on the Seward Highway and had already fallen in the ditch twice. Officer responded and called a cab for subject.

July 19

0334 - A water flow fire alarm came from Spring Creek Correctional Center. CO confirmed no fire response was needed, and that a prisoner broke a water sprinkler.

1522 - Mountain View Sports requested an Officer reference a theft of a coat about an hour ago. Officer responded to the scene and found that a $525 jacket was stolen. Investigation continuing. Suspect is known.

1654 - RP reported that there was a green Caravan parked in the pull out by the Lowell Point waterfall. RP stated that he believed the vehicle to be occupied by a mother not watching her children that were running down into the water. Officer responded and made contact with, CHARLOTTE CUSTER. CUSTER was issued a citation for driving with expired registration. CUSTER was also showing a suspended driver’s license, but wasn’t driving at time of stop. CUSTER advised that a friend was coming to drive the vehicle away.

1823 - RP called 911 requesting assistance at Glacierview Apartment. SVAC and SVFD were dispatched. The patient was assisted back up.

1956 - A verbal warning was given to ZAZVORKA MIROSLAVA for speed at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.

2019 - A citation was issued to EVAN SLONGWHITE for speed at the Seward Highway in front of Essential 1. Verbal warning given for failure to carry registration.

July 20

0033 - Verbal warning given to PRESTON KAARE ATWOOD at Seward Highway and Aspen Lane for failure to illuminate headlights after dark.

0352 - Ambulance requested to Icicle Seafood . Officer spoke with the individual and canceled SVAC and SVFD, as patient refused medical treatment.

0900 - Utility personnel found a wallet in the city mail room. Info entered in Lost/Found Book.

1233 - RP requested a welfare check on an employee. Officer responded but could not locate the employee.

1547 - Providence Medical Center requested an officer for a group of intoxicated individuals that were on the bench in front of the entrance and were being inappropriate. An officer responded and made contact with two subjects who agreed to vacate the premises.

1656 - An ambulance was requested to Bayview Trailer Park. The patient was transported to the hospital.

1755 - An automated alarm from the Breeze Inn was received. Management advised that there was an odor of smoke. SVFD and BCVFD were dispatched. Smoke was showing from the laundry chute. The smoke was contained and all the sprinklers and alarms were restored and reset.

1800 - An officer requested a case for theft. Suspect is known. The theft occurred at Mountainview Sports and is related to case 17-1905.

1929 - Multiple reports were received from Marathon Drive to Bear Drive regarding power outages. The on duty electric was advised and the power was restored.

July 21

0755 - 911 pocket dial from the ARR Cruise Terminal area. No sounds of distress. Unable to call back. Officer advised.

0757 - Breeze Inn advised they were still having trouble with their fire alarm. D80 responded.

1014 - 911 pocket dial from AVTEC. No sounds distress. Officer advised.

1100 - GCI and TelAlaska are working on the issue of landline phones not operating. Unknown cause or ETA of when they will be up and running.

1133 - 911 pocket dial from the SBH area. No sounds distress. Officer advised.

1202 - 911 misdial from the P&R Warehouse. No sounds distress. All ok. Officer advised.

1400 - RP turned in a IN OLN. Info entered in Lost/Found Book

1400 - RP,\ reported her blue wallet missing. Info entered in Lost/Found Book.

1700 - A 911 abandoned line was received from Spring Creek Correctional Center. The call was abandoned before being answered. On call back, the command center advised that everything was okay and that it was a mistake. An officer was advised.

1928 - RP called to report that her bike was stolen from 4th Ave and C Street. The bike is white in color and is a Kona women’s bike with turquoise lettering. The bike was entered into lost and found property and an officer was advised. RP called later to state that she watched an individual with her bike ditch the bike in the woods near the Mount Alice trailhead on Nash Road. Officers responded and made contact with FALANI SOLOMONA. SOLOMONA was issued a felony citation for Theft of the bike.

2139 - A verbal warning was given to Chinese national for speed at 3rd Avenue and Madison Street.

July 22

0008 - RP reported people were being loud down at the Skatepark past 11pm. Officer spoke to the group at the Skatepark and they agreed to leave.

0110 - Verbal warning given to STEVEN LAWSON at Herman Leirer Rd and Seward Highway for crossing center line.

0125 - Verbal warning given to PETER LAUTERBACH at 3rd Ave and Madison St for speed.

0238 - RP reported that a group of people were partying and being loud outside the Van Gilder Hotel. Officer spoke to group and they agreed to leave.

0316 - RP reported people in the alleyway behind the Murphy’s Inn making a lot of noise that sounded like they were having sex. Officer responded and found a group of people sitting in camping chairs nothing illicit happening.

0422 - RP reported that a car was parked across from his house at Bluefield Dr with its lights on for thirty minutes. Officer responded and talked to two subjects. They stated that they had just driven down from anchorage and were just sleeping in their car.

0448 - Citation left on vehicle FNA512 at 1407 4th Ave for failure to register vehicle.

0450 - Citation left on vehicle JHS717 at 233 4th Ave for decals must be properly displayed and attached.

0543 - Verbal warning given to KENNETH WELLS at 3rd Ave for speed.

0616 - Verbal warning given to JASON GEISE at 3rd Ave and Van Buren St for speed.

0637 - Verbal warning given to DAVID HETTICH at Mile 1 Seward Highway for speed.

0654 - Verbal warning given to DANNY DAVIS at Mile 1 Seward Highway for speed.

1402 - RP reported that there was a toddler in a locked vehicle at Safeway for approximately 30 minutes. The mother of the child returned to the vehicle and left the parking lot. An officer was advised.

1503 - RP reported that there was a dog in the vehicle, GWG443, near the intersection of 4th Avenue and Ballaine Avenue. Caller stated she believed the dog to be overheating and that the dog was in there for over an hour. An officer responded and found the dog in the vehicle but the dog wasn’t in distress.

1511 - RP turned in a Visa Wells Fargo debit card. The item was logged into lost and found.

1524 - A citation was issued to BURL PENLY for failure to stop at stop sign at Jefferson Street and Ballaine Avenue.

1614 - A 911 open line was received from 907-******** in the SMIC area. No answering machine set up and no answer on callback. No sounds of distress were heard and Officer was notified.

1705 - RP reported a dog locked in a Silver Subaru. This is the same dog and car from previous case. Officer checked on the dog all windows were rolled down partially and a full bowl of water was in the car and the dog was in no danger.

1834 - A 911 call was received from a subject at Chinooks Restaurant. SVAC/SVFD was dispatched. SVAC transported patient to the hospital.

1844 - RP reported a black Chevy truck with license plate GVY666 was swerving heading into town from about Exit Glacier Rd. RP called back and said the truck had pulled into Resurrection Campground. Information given to Officer.

2038 - RP requested an ambulance at Dimond Blvd. SVAC and SVFD were dispatched. SVAC transported patient to the hospital.

2143 - Verbal warning given to MEAGAN GARRISON at Seward Highway for speed.

2308 - Army Resort Camp Host reported that very loud music was still playing right next door to the Army Resort after 11pm. Officer responded and spoke to party and they agreed to keep it down.

2316 - RP requested and ambulance at Seward Highway. SVAC and SVFD were dispatched. SVAC transported patient to the hospital.

2334 - Verbal warning given to JAMES KAVENEY at Airport Rd and Seward Highway for failure to maintain lane.

2318 - NTWC reported a 5.0 earthquake 115 miles northwest of Attu Island that happened at 2010 hours. No tsunami is expected.

July 23

0059 - A verbal warning was given to JOSEPH HERZOG for speed at Van Buren Street and 3rd Avenue.

0111 - RP reported loud music at Spring Creek Campgrounds. Officer advised the campers to turn down the music.

0216 - RP reported loud music and generator noise at Spring Creek Campgrounds. Officer advised the campers to turn down the music and turn off the generators.

0216 - RP reported BRENDA PARDUHN had entered his campsite without permission at Plainview Campgrounds. An officer trespassed BRENDA PARDUHN from the campsite.

0235 - An ambulance was requested to Afognack Avenue. SVAC and SVFD were dispatched. SVAC transported patient to the hospital.

0542 - A verbal warning was given to JOSEPH WHITE for speed at Seward Highway and Van Buren Street.

0545 - TYCO Security reported a burglar alarm at Essential 1. Officers responded and found some individuals had opened up the front door to use the restrooms. Manager arrived on scene to shut off the alarm.

0620 - A citation was issued to TYLER WARINER for failure to provide proof of insurance at 3rd Street and D Street.

1014 - Citation issued to BLAKE CIVIELLO at 3rd and B St for speed.

1322 - RP advised of a truck obstructing traffic near 4th and Washington St. Officer located the vehicle and was unable to locate the owner. Officer advised that the truck was not blocking traffic. Officer left a parking warning on the vehicle.

1352 - Verbal warning given to REBECCA BERGER at 3rd and B St for speed.

1402 - Ambulance dispatched to the airport to transport the flight crew to the hospital.

1440 - 911 hang up received from (772) ******** in the downtown area. A message was left on callback. Information given to Officer.

1526 - Officer provided transport for a female from Adams St to the Tent Area.

1821 - RP reported that someone had backed into his vehicle while parked at the harbor while he was on a boat tour. Officer spoke to RP at 3rd Ave and documented the damage to the vehicle.

July 24

0134 - Agency assist requested by State Troopers to Cherrywood Lane for a breaking and entering. Officer responded with Troopers. It was discovered that the person trying to break in lived at the residence.
