City's meter exchange delayed until May 2018

The city’s plan to replace its existing electrical meters with updated models has been pushed back until May, according to Seward Electric Utility Manager John Foutz.

“We felt it was a better saving for the electric department and the city for us to postpone it,” Foutz said.

The company had agreed to honor the original contract it had signed with the city despite the delay in delivery, Foutz said. Once they arrive, he said, the new meters could be installed city-wide in about a month.

He also noted a minor setback in the conduit-boring project now under way. Two of the three conduits have been installed, but contractors ran into a buried item that forced them to delay work on the third.

However, he said, “We are continuing to move forward.”
