Yukon Bar to celebrate 75th with bash

The Yukon Bar will mark its 75th year as a hotspot for some of the state’s top musical talent with a special lineup of artists in August, and with a special two-day birthday bash.

According to Michelle Saltz, the local pub will stage its anniversary gala on Friday and Saturday, August 11-12, with performances by Nervis Rex both nights and many prizes given away on the opening night.

An Anchorage band, Nervis Rex is composed of drummer Scott Emery, guitarist/vocalist Carlos Martinez, trombonist Justin Somaduroff, trumpeter Dan Whitfield, electric bassist Cody Keim, and baritone saxist James Webb. The band regularly plays some of the state’s largest events, including the recent Forest Fest in Girdwood.

The Yukon Bar, which was established in 1942, is one of the more popular nightclubs in Seward, offering events almost every night. On Mondays, K.J. Collins hosts karaoke. On Tuesdays the bar hosts open jam with Chris Cain and offers free pool. On Wednesdays, “Raunchy Rachel” stages another karaoke event.

On Fridays, DJ Hankerchief hosts a “Dance Party.”
