Ermagene Aalund brought home the biggest fish in the 2017 Seward Halibut Tournament and then took home plenty of cash to go along with it.

Aalund pocketed $5,500 on June 30 when her 232.2-pound catch held up for more than two weeks and claimed the top spot in the annual tournament. The month-long tournament ended at 11:59 p.m. on June 30.

"Congratulations and many, many thank to all anglers, captains, deckhands and volunteers for a very successful tournament," said Seward Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cindy Clock in announcing the final results.

A resident of Fullerton, California, Aalund landed the tournament's largest catch on June 15 while fishing aboard Aurora Charters' boat, Orion.

From there, all she could do was wait.

In addition to pocketing the prize money for the top catch, Aalund also earned a custom rod from Whopper Stopper.

Seward's Jack Gunter finished second in the final standings with this 229-pound catch

Her victory didn't come without a scare, however. Seward's Jack Gunter came close to matching Aalund's total last week. The youngster moved into second in the final standings by pulling a 229.6-pound halibut. He was fishing aboard J-Dock's boat, Predator.

Despite falling less than 3 pounds shy of Aalund's total, Gunter netted $2,500 for placing second and earned an additional $500 for winning the Youth division.

St. Paul, Minnesota, angler Sarah Castle finished third in the overall standings and collected $1,500. Castle landed a 225.2-pound fish earlier in the month while fishing aboard ProFish-n-Sea's boat, Pursuit.. She was second to Aalund in the final Women's division standings.

John Austin Gallardo won the Military division. He landed a 130-pounder in the opening days of the tournament and held on to the lead throughout. He landed his winner while fishing aboard Inn & Out Charters' boat, Nauti Girl.

Hannah Hart, a teen from Lolo, Montana, finished second in the Youth division.
