Allen, Petrosius lead 'Hawks to 5th at KPB meet


Trapper Allen raced his way to third in the hurdles and Zen Petrosius placed in both of his events on Saturday and helped the Seward Seahawks race to fifth in the team standings at the 2017 Kenai Peninsula Borough Championships. As a team, Seward rolled up 27.5 points in the meet, which was held at Justin Maile Field in Soldotna.

Allen highlighted the Seahawks’ outing by racing his way to a bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles. He posted a time of 18.54 seconds in the race and finished third.

Petrosius finished sixth in the boys’ 1,600-meter race and the discus competitions. In the 1,600, he completed the race in a mark of 4 minutes and 54 seconds. His sixth-place mark in the discus was a throw of 103-6.

Trenten Freiburg and the SHS 800-meter relay team also did well for Seward. Freiburg placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 35-11. The Seahawks’ 800-meter relay squad was fifth at 1:41.94.

The Seward girls’ 800-meter relay squad highlighted the Lady Seahawks’ outing. The squad legged out a time of 2:05.84 and scored 12 points with a third-place run.

Sadie Lindquist finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:59.94. Kriziel Sarmiento and EmmaLee Moore were sixth in the high jump and long jump, respectively.

As a team, the SHS girls rolled up 18 points and finished fourth in the KPB standings.

Soldotna edged out Kenai in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions to sweep the borough championships.
