May is a beautiful time to reflect on God's glory

Pastor's Corner

In Alaska, May is one of the most beautiful times to reflect on God’s Glory. The weather is usually one of the sunniest, flowers burst forth, fishing and boating take off. Our nation celebrates Mother’s Day to thank them for giving us life. We remember those mothers whom God has called to Himself. We thank Jesus for giving us His mother, Mary, to be our mother when he said to John from the cross, “behold your mother.”

May is the time to congratulate our graduates and pray for them as they take on the world. May they work to serve God and their neighbor to make it a better, more peaceful place of His creation.

We welcome so many visitors to our community and churches. let us show them great joy in our worship of the Creator of this Great Land. We are so blessed to live in this truly awesome place.

On Saturday, the 20th of May we will bless the boats we use for commercial and sports fishing and sailing the waters of Resurrection Bay. How providential our Russian named waters remind us of that first Easter. May all boaters be protected this summer. Many in Seward have donated boats, skippers and crew to thank our military on Combat Fishing Day on the Thursday before Memorial Day for many years. The American Legion Post feeds them well before their bus ride back to Anchorage. What a sacrifice to thank our service men and women for their sacrifice!

On May 29th, our community remembers our fallen heroes as the American Legion leads us in a memorial service at the Seward City Cemetery and waterfront. We thank God for giving us men and women willing to sacrifice to protect our freedom. It’s also a day to remember all of our departed loved ones and to thank Jesus for His sacrifice on the Cross and His Resurrection so that we can hope to be with our loved ones again with Him in heaven.
