Lady 'Hawks 4x400 relay streaks to win in Homer

HOMER – The Seward Lady Seahawks 4x400-meter relay team established itself as one of the fastest squads in the state this past weekend with a stellar outing at the Homer Invitational Track and Field Championships. The four runners - Sadie Lindquist, Ruby Lindquist, Emma Armand and Coral Petrosius - sprinted to the top of the relay race and helped power Seward to a fifth-place finish in the girls’ team standings.

Sadie Lindquist helped the Lady Seahawks get off to a strong start in the 4x400-meter race. After sprinting her 400, she passed the baton to her sister, Ruby, who then passed it to teammate Armand. Petrosius completed the 4-lap race as the anchor, sprinting across the finish line in a time of 4 minutes and 29.80 seconds. Homer was second in the race at 4:31.07.

The Lady Seahawks’ 400-meter relay team also did well, placing sixth at 1:01.27.

Ruby Lindquist highlighted Seward’s individual efforts on the track. She sprinted her way to a pair of gold medals by winning the 800- and 1,600-meter races. She turned in a time of 2:26.66 in the 800 and edged out Homer’s Autumn Daigle by more than 6 full seconds.

In the 1,600, Lindquist sprinted to a time of 5:30.34 and finished almost 9 seconds ahead of Anchorage Christian’s Tessa O’Hara.

The Lady Seahawks’ prowess in the distance-running events was also evident in the 3,200. Sewards EmmaLee Moore and Armand placed third and fourth, respectively, and accounted for 10 of the team’s points. Moore turned in a run of 13 minutes and 22.94 seconds. Armand checked in at 13:33.34.
