Just be the best person you can be

It is natural to feel let down when we see our fellow men and women behaving badly. However, let the focus be on your own life.

From time to time, we are all fed up with what humanity is doing around us, whether it is from learning about what is happening around the world, or what is going on next door. There will always be situations that leave us feeling as if people are simply not capable of behaving in a way that is coming from a place of awareness. Often it seems as if people are actually geared to handle situations in the worst possible way, repeatedly. At the same time, none of us like to linger in a disapproving mood about our own species. As a result, we might tend to hold in the feelings that arise as we take in the news from the world and the neighborhood.

It is natural to feel let down and frustrated when we see fellow human beings acting in ways that are greedy, egoistic, violent or uncaring, but there are also ways that we can process that disappointment without sinking into hopelessness. As with any emotional response, we honor our feelings by feeling them to the fullest extent, without judging or acting on them. Once we have done that, and we may need to do that on a daily basis as part of our everyday self-care, we can begin to consider ways that we might help the situation in which humanity finds itself at that given time.

As always, we must start with ourselves, taking in our awareness of others’ flaws to renew our own promise to be more a conscious human being ourselves. We are all capable of the best and the worst that humanity has to offer, and remembering this keeps us in check. We are not perfect and must work to find compassion for others around us. This can compel us to serve people who are suffering inequalities at the hands of other people, or we may begin to speak out when we see something that we do not think is right.

Whatever the case maybe, the only thing we can do is be the best person we can be, rather than the worst of what humanity has to offer.
