Allow Him to come in, clean and repair your heart today

God is in the heart-changing business. Of all the ways that God deals with people—through circumstances, relationships, even tragedies—He always come back to our heart. More than anything else, God wants to touch your heart; to heal it’s pain and disappointment, to lighten it’s burdens and to make it brand new.

Recently, I had open-heart surgery. I was digging out my driveway and started having pain and other symptoms. After several tests and doctor’s visits, I was told I needed bypass surgery. I’ll be honest, the news rattled my cage. I am a man of faith, so death itself isn’t scary, but going through the pain of recovery and healing wasn’t something I wanted to face. My wife and daughters were plenty motivation for me to face the procedure—they have always been my motivation, through nearly 30 years of military service, and through all of the challenges of life.

So you could say I have a new heart. Or at least a fixed one. And I realize with new clarity how important it is to relate to God with our hearts. Too many of us simply deal with God on an intellectual level; others try to over-spiritualize everything. But God has always looked at your heart, and that’s where He wants to live. In so many places in the Bible God makes it clear: “You shall find the Lord if you seek Him with all your heart.” (Deuteronomy 4:29) “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart.” (Psalm 34:18) “Create in me a clean heart, O God.” (Psalm 51:10).

Do you need heart surgery from the Lord? Allow Him to come in, clean and repair your heart today. Yes, recovery can be painful—but once you give God your heart your future will never be the same! Then you will join with the writer of Psalm 28 in proclaiming: “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices; and with my song will I praise Him.”
