Lindquist, Kratz open track season with wins

Ruby Lindquist and Hunter Kratz kicked off the 2017 track and field season on a high note this past weekend at the Warrior Track Mania meet in Wasilla. Both walked away with multiple medals from the event.

Lindquist helped lead the Lady Seahawks to a third-place finish in the girls’ standings by turning in outstanding performances in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. She breezed to a season-opening win in the 1,600-meter run by legging out a time of 5 minutes and 34.04 seconds. In the 800, Lindquist and her younger sister, Sadie, both posted impressive efforts. Ruby Lindquist turned in a time of 2:28.93 and finished second in the final standings. Sadie Lindquist was sixth at 2:40.55.

Ally Chryss picked up the Lady Seahawks’ third medal of the meet. She claimed a bronze medal with a third-place mark in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 21.14 seconds.

The Seward 4x100-meter relay team narrowly missed medaling by taking fourth with a time of 24.32.

Emmalee Moore was eighth in the long jump standings with a jump of 12 feet, 6 inches.

The Colony Lady Knights won the girls’ division with 151.5 points. Palmer was second at 85, while Seward was third at 38.5.

Kratz collected a pair of first-place finishes and helped the Seward boys place fourth in the boys’ team standings.

A 2016 state qualifier, Kratz kicked off the new season by sprinting to a win in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. In the 800, he legged out a blistering time of 2:02.72 and edged out the second-place finisher by 6 seconds. Seward’s Zen Petrosius was eighth at 2:16.47.

Kratz claimed the top spot in the 1,600 with a blistering mark of 4:31.57. His winning time was more than 2 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Petrosius also did well in the 1,600, taking sixth at 5:04.34.

Rhett Sieverts picked up a pair of medals at the meet, taking second in the long jump and third in the high jump competitions. Beau Frieberg was fifth in the long jump.

The Seward 4x400-meter relay team also notched a second-place effort, finishing at 3:55.77
