The Houston Hawks reeled off a 29-point barrage in the first eight minutes of play on Saturday and claimed a tough 73-62 victory over the Seward Seahawks.

The loss spoiled a solid performance from Zen Petrosius and the SHS offense. As a team, the Seahawks rained down nine three-pointers against Houston, including five from Hauze.

Houston didn’t have a problem finding the basket in the first quarter. They pushed in more than 10 shots in the opening eight minutes and built a 10-point lead, at 29-19, heading into the second.

Seward fought its way back in the ensuing frame. The Seahawks posted 17 points in the second and went into the half trailing by nine, at 45-36.

Houston found its offense again in the third. They salted away the victory with a 24-point spree in the initial eight minutes of the second half. Houston took a 69-46 cushion into the start of the fourth.

Petrosius led all Seward scorers in the contest by throwing in 18 points.

Hunter Kratz joined Petrosius and Hauze in double figures. He finished the game with 13 points.

Like the boys’ team, the Seward :Lady Seahawks came out on the short end of the margin in their showdown with Houston. The HHS girls used a 12-9 run in the fourth quarter to sneak out a 34-32 come-from-behind win.

Seward, which was led by Ashley Jackson, took a 4-1 lead in the first and pushed that lead to 7, at 17-10, at the half.

Houston pushed in 12 points in the third and cut Seward’s lead to one, at 23-22, heading into the fourth.

Jackson spearheaded the SHS offense with 15 points.
