The following is from the journals of the Seward Police Department. Those who have been arrested or summoned are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Nov. 28

0935 - RP turned in expired medications to be destroyed at City Hall.

1500 - Extra patrols requested at the SBH, F Float, slip F5 per owner.

1800 - Citation issued to driver at Mile 1 Seward Hwy for failure to provide proof of insurance, and expired registration. Verbal warning for inoperable headlight and advised to get an Alaska Operators License.

2148 - Verbal warning given to driver for headlight requirement at Seward Highway and Resurrection Boulevard.

2141 - RP requested a welfare check for her step-mother-in-law whom she believes is suicidal and living with her other daughter. Mother-in-law was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

2141 - Officers arrested AMANDA PENNINGTON on a misdemeanor SAST Warrant. She was transported to the Seward Community Jail.

Nov. 29

0101 - RP reported a disturbance on Third Avenue. Officers responded and made contact with three people and found there was no disturbance.

0923 - USFS will be doing a prescribed burn from Mile 38-42 Seward Highway today. SAST is advised.

1050 - Electric Department will be doing work and several houses on Swetmann, Benson and Great Bear Circle will be without power for approximately 2 hours.

1314 - Ambulance requested to SCCC for a possible heart attack. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

1314 - PSMC requested ambulance to meet flight crew at the airport at 1340 hours. SVAC dispatched.

1713 - SAST called to report of a vehicle accident involving a moose with unknown injuries. SVAC,BCVFD, and AST responded. No-one was transported to the hospital.

1807 - RP called 911 to report a male, STEVEN AFALLA who was knocking on the front door and window of their hotel room. Officer responded to 402 Second Ave and the suspect left the area in a taxi. Charges were later filed with the court for DV Assault and Stalking

1945 - RP called to report that the male bathroom’s toilet is continually flushing and that it wouldn’t stop. She wasn’t able to locate a manual shutoff. On call public works was called.

2003 - SAST called said that GCI is working on the telephone lines out on Nash road and that they will be down until 2300.

2020 - RP called and said that two males were being disorderly and were asked to leave the bar. They didn’t comply until RP called the Seward Police Department. Officer responded and no contact was made.

Nov. 30

0749 - SAST requested ambulance to stage on Old Exit Glacier Road for a male having possible cardiac issues as well as hallucinations. BCVFD/SVAC dispatched.

0922 - City Clerk’s office turned in a small child’s coat that was found in the Council Chambers. Information entered in Lost/Found Book.

0957 - NTWC reported a 4.1 earthquake located 40 miles NW of Homer. No tsunami expected.

1244 - NTWC reported a 5.1 earthquake located 35 miles SW of Amchitka. No tsunami reported.

1358 - AK Ski Patrol and Alaska Mountain Rescue Group(AMRG) responded to Turnagain Pass for a report of an injured skier. MPVFD dispatched to assist SAR

1453 - Ambulance requested for 30 year old male with hip pain. SVFD/SVAC dispatched.

1531 - Ambulance requested for 69 year old male with hip fracture. BCVFD/SVAC dispatched.

1556 - Citation issued to driver at Seward and Sealion for obscured view. Verbal warning given for failure to stop at stop sign.

1721 - SEAVIEW CLINICIAN, advised that a male was possibly suicidal. Officers transported the male to the hospital. SeaView took responsibility for the male.

1845 - RP requested a security check on Safeway. RP was concerned because she could not contact anyone at the store. Officer did not find anything suspicious.

1846 - RP requested an Officer to assist with his intoxicated adult son. Officer advised RP that he could not place his son into protective custody. Officer advised that he take his son to the hospital to be evaluated.

1928 - RP advised that her vehicle, parked at the Harbor 360 Hotel, had been gone through. RP spoke with an officer.

Dec. 1

0058 - Seward Marine Industrial Center (SMIC) Roads have 1”-2” snow accumulation.

0819 - Verbal warning given to driver at the Pit Bar for driving left of center.

0942 - Alarm company working on alarm system at St. Pete’s Episcopal Church

1001 - Seward Mountain Haven Eagle Lodge did a scheduled fire drill.

1033 - SPD participated in ALICE Drill at the Middle School

1110 - RP requested to speak to an Officer reference an assault at Bayside Apartments. Officer responded and unable to locate suspect.

1130 - D81 advised Library is working on their alarm panel.

1211 - RP reported a red haired female was going through his vehicle at 3 Bears and when confronted, female drove off in a blue Saturn. Officer advised.

1603 - RP called to report that STEPHEN FISHER, a suspect from a previous case, was at her residence. Officer responded and arrested FISHER on a $500 warrant and transported him to SCJ.

1938 - RP advised of an overturned vehicle on the Seward Highway and Stoney Creek Avenue. Seward Ambulance and Bear Creek Fire Department responded. Bear Creek arrived on scene first and requested SVAC stand down as all three passengers of the vehicle were safely out of the vehicle and declined medical treatment.

2057 - Verbal warning given to driver for white light to the rear at Seward Highway and Hemlock Street.

2104 - Verbal warning given to driver for failure to stop at a stop sign and for improper display of tags at Seward Highway and Resurrection Boulevard.

2222 - RP at Thorn’s Showcase Lounge requested an Officer to Fourth Ave in reference to a MVA. RP advised the vehicle is parked in front of Brown and Hawkins. Officer responded and contacted the drivers. Officers gave both PAR forms and are exchanging information with each other in the morning.

Dec. 2

0025 - RP at the Evergreen Home advised of an alarm sounding. The alarm showed the phone line was down. Officer advised that it’s probably related to an issue with GCI.

0049 - A resident at Glacier View Apts inquired about the internet and cable service interruption. Caller was given the Admin phone number and was advised to call that number in the future for non-emergency calls.

0153 - SAST requested medics to stage near Eadsville for a possible DV situation.

0210 - SAST requested an Officer to Eadsville for an agency assist. Officer responded to the area. Officers contacted several individuals and MARK EDWARDS. Troopers arrested EDWARDS for DV assault IV.

0925 - PSMC requested an ambulance to meet flight crew at the airport. SVAC dispatched.

0930 - Glacierview Apartments requested an Officer to evict an unauthorized person from an apartment. Officer responded.

1200 - STEPHEN FISHER was criminally trespassed from Seward Marketplace indefinitely. Advisement entered in APSIN.

1430 - A citizen notified dispatch of a disabled vehicle in Dieckgraeff Rd. The vehicle is stalled in the middle of the road but has called for help. Officer responded and spoke with owner who advised that a tow truck is in route. The vehicle has been moved to the side of the road.

1550 - An automated 911 elevator call was received from 201 Third Avenue, the Orca Building. Officer responded as well as AST.

1816 - Citation issued to driver in front of AVTEC on Second Avenue and B Street for failure to provide proof of insurance. Verbal warning given for inoperative taillight.

2100 - Officer arrested SHAWN MCCURDY on a $500 SAST warrant. MCCURDY was transferred to Seward Community Jail.

2104 - RP reported a disturbance at Bayview Apartments. It was reported that individuals were being loud and that they were entering the main hallways loudly and visibly intoxicated. Officers contacted EDWARD GUILLEMETTE, DANIEL WHEELER and CLAUS BIRKHOLZ they were all given verbal Disorderly Conduct warnings to be quiet.

Dec. 3

0555 - 911 open line received near the Middle school. No sounds of distress. Number could not be reached on callback.

1246 - RP called 911 from the Branson pavilion advising that he has no place to stay. An Officer met with him on Fifth Ave and discussed his options. RP was not impaired by alcohol.

1430 - RP requested a welfare check on her nephew after receiving a disturbing phone call from him within the last hour. The nephew had explained that he believes everyone thinks he is a child molester, that he feels threatened, and that he may act out in a violent, life-threatening way soon. He also advised his aunt that he went to local authorities and the school administration, but that no one was willing to help him. RP also notified AVTEC of the call. Officer spoke with AVTEC personnel before contacting the male. The AVTEC counselor was present during the contact and took over after the Officer determined the male not to be an immediate threat to anyone.

1619 - RP reported a male who was lying in the snow and was possibly becoming hypothermic. The male was transported to the hospital for intoxication and hypothermia.

1722 - An earthquake of a magnitude 5.6 occurred 0024 AKST 390 miles west of ADAK, ALASKA. A tsunami is not expected to occur.

1952 - A citizen called to report that her father was running a high fever and was having difficulty breathing. The patient has recent history with heart problems and was transported to the hospital.

2205 - Providence hospital called to report of a patient who was very inebriated and requested protective custody. Officer placed the male into protective custody and transported him to Seward Community Jail.

Dec. 4

0222 - Ambulance requested to Mountain Haven, Lupine Lodge, for a 78 year old female with chest pain and trouble breathing.

1426 - RP requested a welfare check for his daughter. He was concerned for her as he hadn’t been able to reach her by telephone. An officer responded to her residence and made contact and determined that everything was okay and that her phone was off earlier.

1605 - A citizen reported a male dressed in dark clothing standing in the middle of 3rd Ave near Bayside Apartments. He has a beard and is holding a can of beer. Officer contacted the male who went inside.

1840 - Troopers arrested CALEY CASSIDY on a Felony Probation warrant from Palmer AST. $5,000 bond.

1850 - Moose Pass requested SVAC to be put on standby for an asthma patient. Parents decided to take the juvenile and FM25 requested SVAC to stand down.

1900 - An ambulance was requested for a female that was having tremors and not responded to voice commands. She recently has had a medication change.

2031 - Citation Issued to driver at 606 3rd Ave for expired registration. Verbal warning for inoperable headlight and to renew driver’s license.

Dec. 5

0625 - RP called from WA state to request a welfare check on his four children. Officer advised and spoke with RP.

0712 - Ambulance requested for an 87 y/o/m with difficulty breathing.
