SPRD to host Annual Community Halloween Carnival on Oct. 31

The Annual Community Halloween Carnival is coming up Monday, Oct. 31, from 6-9 p.m. at the Dale Lindsey Railroad Terminal in Seward. Reservations for booth space is now available, reserve your spot today call Josie at or download a form from our website

As part of the event, which is being sponsored by the Seward Parks and Recreation Department, the Seward Seahawks Athletic Booster Club and the Seward Teen Rec Room, individuals or businesses that would like to reserve booth space should submit forms Activity Request Forms to the Seward Parks and Recreation as by 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. Each group/organization will also be required to have at least one adult supervisor present at their booth from set-up to clean-up.

Set-up time will begin at 4 p.m. on, Oct. 31. (Earlier set up times may be arranged, if needed.) Clean-up will begin at 9 p.m., immediately following the carnival. All groups/organizations will be responsible for cleaning up their booth area.

Also, all groups/organizations will be responsible for collecting and storing all ticket stubs until the end of the carnival. Tickets should be bundled in groups of 50. By 9:15 p.m., the supervisor shall take all bundled ticket stubs to the designated ticket check out booth for counting and receipt. These will be recounted for verification, and payment will be sent from the Seahawks Athletic Booster Club through Seward High School. A 15 percent fee will be deducted from ticket totals for the event sponsor(s). Checks will be processed the following week. This process does require completed W-9 forms.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m., children - ages 9 and under - can search for mini pumpkins, roast marshmallows and sip hot cocoa.

This is a free event and fun for the whole family!

Family Masquerade Ball

On Saturday, Oct. 22, following the Pumpkin Prowl walk on over to the Seward Resort and do the Monster Mash. You can enjoy refreshments and win prizes! Costume contest will be announced at 8 p.m. - $3 in costume; $4 no costume and $10 for families.

Sports & Rec

Adult Basketball League team sign-up deadline is Friday, Sept. 30. First game tip-off is Tuesday, Oct. 4 in the Seward Middle School gym. Games are every Tuesday and Thursday night. Register and pay today

BBQ Volleyball League

Attention volleyball players! BBQ Volleyball is back! Get a team together for an excellent Fall recreation! BBQ league is designed to bring together friends, co-workers and neighbors to play volleyball without a referee but with plenty of fun. The league us for players aged 16 and up. Call SPRD to form a team or to join a current team. See you on the court! Fall season runs through Oct. 17 through Dec. 6. Games start at 5:30 p.m.

TYC After School Program

TYC After School Program is in full swing. Grades K-5 are welcome to join us for some activities and excitement after school on Monday through Friday. We offer a wide variety of activities, including crafts, sports, cooking and team challenges. We also offer “School’s Out” Day Camps, programs on Early Release days and Winter/Spring Break camps. Scholarships applications are available, just ask Josie.

Teen Rec Room

The Teen Rec Room, or we call it the TRR, is located at 336 3rd Ave., and is open to middle school students and high school teens from Tuesday through Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday nights from 5:30 to 10 p.m. This free program is open to teens offering ping pong, Skee ball, computers, X-box, pool tables and more.

Teen Council is a 10-member group of high school teens, meeting bi-weekly to develop and host special events for teens and their community. Members volunteer at ASP to mentor younger students, helping to make a difference. Members volunteer with various special events and projects at the Teen Rec Room. For more information or for an application contact the Teen Rec Room staff at 224-4056.

Teen Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Teen Rec Room.
