The Seward High School Lady Seahawks pushed the Nikiski Lady Bulldogs to the very edge on Friday before suffering a tough 3-2 setback in a key Southcentral Conference showdown. Nikiski used a late rally to break a 2-2 tie and claim a 15-7 victory in Game 5.

Seward, now 5-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play, held its own early in the contest. After Nikiski had won Game 1 by a 25-17 clip, Riley Von Borstel and the SHS spikers stormed back. They pounded out a 25-23 win in Game 2 to tie the score.

The Lady Bulldogs answered the Lady Hawks’ challenge. They took Game 3 by a 25-20 clip.

Maggie Adkins, Tia Miranda and Randi Tolson helped Seward rally back. Seward punched its way to a 25-23 decision in Game 4 and forced a fifth game.

With the win, Nikiski moved into second place in the Southcentral race behind Grace Christian.
