The Seward Seahawks can put an exclamation point on a wild see-saw season on Friday. A real nice exclamation mark.

Seward can end a two-year playoff drought this weekend with a much-needed victory over rival Voznesenka. A win over the Cougars would send the Seahawks into their regular season finale against Nikiski with a two-game lead over Voznesenka in the Peninsula Conference standings.

Seward will square off against the Cougars beginning a 4 p.m. on Friday in Homer.

Make no mistake about it, the game with Voznesenka has playoff implications for both teams. A win by the Cougars would lift Voznesenka into a tie with Seward in the conference standings and, more importantly, give the Cougars the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Seahawks heading into the final week of the regular season.

Seward, now 3-3 overall, has blossomed into one of the powerhouses in the Peninsula Conference race over the past month. The Seahawks, who started the year at 0-3, have outscored their last three foes by an 86-61 margin. In their last two outings, the SHS defense has limited Homer and Monroe Catholic to just two touchdowns apiece.

Voznesenka comes into their matchup with Seward on a high note. The Cougars defeated Redington by a 12-8 margin over the weekend. The victory - the fourth-ever win in Voznesenka's short football history - helped the Cougars move to 1-2 in conference play and stay within one game of Seward.

Overall, Voznesenka is 1-4.

Redington and Homer enter Week 7 of the season winless. Redington is 0-5, while Homer is 0-6.

Conference-leading Nikiski clinched a return to the postseason last week with a 22-6 win over Homer. The Bulldogs are 4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.

Nikiski will face off with defending state champion Eielson this week. Eielson defeated Nikiski in the state championship game last October.
