Kratz, Lindquist shine at KPB Invitational

September 22, 2016

Hunter Kratz went into the 2016 Kenai Peninsula Borough Invitational last Tuesday looking to prove to himself that he was in good enough condition to compete at the Region III meet.

He did that - and more. The Seward standout nailed down his second straight KPB Invitational title by running away with an easy win. He completed the 3-kilometer race in a blistering time of 10 minutes and 28 seconds and helped power the Seahawks to a third-place finish in the team standings.

Kratz edged out a bevy of Homer runners at the finish line. His final mark was 19 seconds faster that the Mariners’ Jordan Beachy, who was second at 10:47.

In addition to Beachy, Homer also had runners take third, fourth, fifth and seventh en route to winning the KPB team title for a second year in a row.

Zen Petrosius (15th), Brendon McMurry (17th), Jaden Van Dyke (19th) and Sullivan Hauze (20th) also did well.

In the girls’ race, Ruby Lindqust led Seward to third in the team standings by placing third in the individual race. She finished the race with a mark of 12:36.

EmmaLee Moore (12th), Sadie Lindquist (16th), Coral Petrosius (20th), Tanis Lorring (21st), Emma Armand (24th) and Ally Chryss (25th) also did well.
