Seward, shown above playing against Homer, reeled off its third straight win this past weekend by taking a 28-13 victory over the Monroe Catholic Rams.

The Seward Seahawks moved one step closer to the postseason on Friday afternoon with a gutsy 28-13 come-from-behind win over the Monroe Catholic Rams in a non-conference matchup played in a heavy rain.

With the victory, Seward picked up its third straight win and evened its season record at 3-3 heading into its final two games of the regular season.

Monroe Catholic, which slipped to 2-3 overall, didn't make the win easy for the surging Seahawks. The Rams led for much of the first three quarters.

Monroe Catholic drew first blood in the showdown. The Rams scored on a short running play in the first quarter and grabbed a 7-0 lead.

Seward, which picked up touchdowns from four different players in the contest, got its offense going in the second. The Seahawks pushed its way into the end zone and took an 8-7 advantage into the half.

Monroe Catholic, which had entered the game fresh off a blowout loss to Barrow, fought its way back in the third. They scored just moments into the second half by recovering a fumble in the Seward end zone for a 13-8 advantage. The Rams had driven to the SHS goal line before fumbling the ball into the end zone.

Seward, keyed by a dominating effort from its offensive and defensive lines, took control from there. The 'Hawks reeled off 21 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters to close out the contest.

Nik Pahno turned in a solid outing on both sides of the ball for the Seahawks. As the team's quarterback, he accounted for one of Seward's scores by sprinting around the left side for a 3-yard run on a keeper play. On the defensive side, Pahno intercepted a pass and prevented a potential MC score by chasing down a Rams' runner from behind.

Running backs Beau Frieberg, Michael Wilps and Nick Woodard also scored for Seward.
