Wada statue dedication set for Sept. 23

September 22, 2016

The official dedication of the Jujiro Wada statue, erected this summer, will be on Friday, Sept. 23, starting at 1 p.m. The statue, which is located on the bike path at 6th and Railway, was commissioned by the Seward Iditarod Trail Blazers and sculpted by Pat Garley and Colleen Wake of Arctic Fires Bronze in Palmer.

Wada pioneered the Iditarod Trail between Seward and the Iditarod mining district in 1909-1910.

Members of the Jujiro Wada Memorial Association of Japan will attend and participate in the dedication. Also, Japanese public television is sending a crew to tape the event. Students of Seward Elementary will provide musical entertainment during the dedication.

There will be a reception after the dedication at Zudy’s Cafe.
